She likes looking at baby pictures. Age 0-4, she looks the same in all of them. Same chubby little chin, same blue eyes, same shade of strawberry blond hair curling on top of her head. She was a smiley toddler, pretty big for her age, too, though now she's average height, average size.
The list of average things about her doesn't go on for very long, however.
Mia's special, her mother will insist, you're simply very unique, Liebchen and you don't say, Mia's one in 7,5 billion. She's got a medical condition which, at least, the doctors haven't named after her. It's called Unpredictable Regeneration Syndrome. It's complex and never before documented, she's pretty much a freak, a mutant, because what it means is this: every 27 days, when her skin regenerates, her entire head changes. From the colour and texture of her hair over her eye colour to her basic facial features, it'll all change over night, like magic. She goes to bed looking like one person and wakes up looking like another.
The rest of her stays the same. Her height and her general body shape, her sex, voice, skin colour... And, of course, her personality. She's the same Mia, just stuck in an ever-changing holster. It's been that way since she was five.
That's why she sometimes - well, oftentimes wonders who she really is. She doesn't recognise the girl in the mirror. Neither does anyone else. Every 27 days, she becomes a stranger again. Again and again and again.
